Our Story
International Sports Images is an independent sports photography and visual news agency providing comprehensive editorial coverage, assignment photography and archive licensing for teams, universities, governing bodies, media organizations and commercial clients.
Founded in 1992 with deep roots in American soccer, ISI has grown into a broader sports agency supported by an experienced nationwide network of photographers and editors. Today, we cover collegiate and professional sports throughout the United States, combining exceptional photography with fast delivery, accurate metadata and highly personal client service.
ISI serves as the photography agency for Stanford Athletics and provides team photography for the San Jose Earthquakes and Bay FC. Our photographers have also covered more than 20 NCAA bowl games, numerous NCAA championships and many of the most significant events in international soccer.
Soccer remains an important part of our identity. ISI served as the photography agency for U.S. Soccer through 2026 and has covered nine FIFA Men’s World Cups, seven FIFA Women’s World Cups and seven Olympic Games. Our complete sports archive contains more than one million images, including well over half a million soccer photographs spanning U.S. Soccer, MLS and international competition.
The collection chronicles the modern growth of soccer in the United States—from the 1994 FIFA World Cup and the first MLS match to the WUSA, WPS, NWSL and today’s professional game. It is both a visual history of the sport and an actively licensed editorial resource for clients around the world.
Founded by J. Brett Whitesell and acquired by John Todd and Annette Shelby in 2004, ISI was an early leader in digital sports photography, creating the first soccer-specific online image database. That same independent spirit continues to guide us today as we expand our coverage, strengthen our technology and help clients tell their stories through distinctive, best-in-class sports imagery.
